Day 0: Arrival in Moshi

Elevation: 915 m / 3,000 ft
Habitat: Urban
Accommodation: River Trees Country Inn or Arusha Coffee Lodge.

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your guides for a pre-climb briefing to discuss the trek and review your gear. Spend the rest of the day preparing and relaxing for the adventure ahead.

Accommodation: Mti Mkubwa Camp

Begin your journey with a drive to Londorossi Gate for registration. The trek starts in the lush rainforest, where you may encounter monkeys and unique bird species. The day ends at Mti Mkubwa Camp, also known as Big Tree Camp.

Accommodation: Shira 1 Camp

The trail ascends through heather and moorland, offering stunning views of the Shira Plateau and Kibo Peak. The landscape opens up, revealing expansive plains and unique flora. Arrive at Shira 1 Camp in the afternoon.

Today’s trek is a relatively short hike across the Shira Plateau, with panoramic views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding landscapes. This day allows for further acclimatization before continuing to higher altitudes.

Distance: ~14 km / 8.7 miles

Accommodation: Moir Hut

Hike to Lava Tower (4,630 m) for an acclimatization stop, then descend slightly to Moir Hut. This day’s trek offers dramatic views of Kilimanjaro’s glaciers and a chance to adapt to the higher altitude.

Accommodation: Buffalo Camp

The trail veers north, taking you around the quieter side of the mountain. Enjoy spectacular views of Kenya’s savannahs as you hike through the alpine desert to Buffalo Camp.

Accommodation: Third Cave Camp

Continue along the northern circuit, experiencing remote and serene landscapes. The trail gradually ascends as you approach Third Cave Camp, where you’ll rest before the summit attempt.

Elevation: 3,870 m to 5,895 m (12,700 ft to 19,341 ft), then down to 3,067 m (10,065 ft)
Distance: ~15 km / 9.3 miles
Hiking Time: 12-15 hours

Accommodation: Mweka Camp

Begin the final ascent just after midnight, trekking to Gilman’s Point and continuing to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement, descend to School Hut for breakfast and then proceed to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.
